The webslinger keeps on slinging
So, like a billion people in the greater North America, I too sauntered to the movie theater with a pack of friends and took in the summer spectacular Harry Potter and the .....wait, wrong article. This is about everyone's favorite blue and red super guy. Spiderman.
I liked the movie. There is something to be said for watching a movie where, for the first half, things get significantly worse for the lead character. Late rent, guilt over killing his uncle (accessory I think it would be), losing Mary Jane, Harry's obsession with killing Spiderman.
In the theater, I felt it started to drag on. But, then..bam. It got better. The line seemed to be more of a teaser for the end, and the next movie. Doctor Oct. was a middle of the road villian, but his use was to jump off the events of finding out Spiderman's ID and getting us prepared for the Hobgoblin. I think all of us, at one point or another, can identify with Peter Parker. We have all had our kicks to the crotch, and our rollercoster of horror happen.
The approach was good, and I liked the way that the director did it. Good for you Sammy!
The crux of the storyline is something that took almost 15 years in comic book time to happen. Like with the X-Men movies, the backstory and the in between is not needed. That, I think, is the one of the most important factors. People that have never picked up a Amazing Spiderman can watch it and be totally up to date. While hard core fans might be bummed out by the speed that these movies are progressing through, I think they have to understand the reason behind it. There is no need to bring up little things. Certain villians never need to be brought up (the vuture, anyone?)
What I can't wait for is, if they do it, the Venom Saga. Unfortunately, that takes place in a series, and a whole new story would be needed to created for Eddy Brock and the Symbiont. But, I'll forgive them!
