First, the disclaimer: I have never been a huge fan of the Predator series. The first was decent, but the second on was lame. Danny Glover should stick to comedy and Lethal Weapon. As for the Alien series, loved it.
That is why this review might be hard to write.
Upon going into the theater with my friends and the local EBgames posse, I had some tripedation. Ten years ago, a videogame came out for the SNES called Alien Vs. Predator, apparently a pre-cursor to the up-coming movie. Like a lot of movies that take time, it never came out. This movie was as anticipated as the showdown between Freddy Kruger and Jason Vorhees. After nine years, a talented director Paul W.S. Anderson ( Resident Evil), took the helm.
The over all movie was decent for action, but cheesy in parts.
The movie synopsis for those who aren't familiar with it is this: The movie takes place in the present day and a company finds a ancient pyrimid in the Antartic. The Predator race build it a long time ago as a trial of manhood type ritual place where three hunters would go to the temple and slay the creatures from the Alien movies.
The special effects were great, but the overall movie had some things that could not be ignored. The action sequences were good, but the slow motion was unnessisary. Without letting the ending away, the whole " Human pet" thing was cheesy.
Don't get me wrong. It was a good enough movie to see, but maybe when it arrives on video and DVD. I could have thought of a bunch of things to spend $9 on, but I didn't have to pay for the ticket. I think when a movie has been building up for a long time in the minds of fans that nothing could really do justice to what the fans want. Time and time again we have seen in with movies. Jason Vs. Freddy is a prime example. The plot was thin, and the movie was only okay. Sometimes it might be better to let these movies live in the myth instead of in the flesh.
Overall: 6/10
