Ramblings, just ramblings
my god, I am going to end it all now

I still remember the night I was introduced to a little budget indoe film by a then unknown director named Kevin Smith.

Clerks was the reason I wanted to get into the writing or movie industry. There was a movie that showed that there is a attraction of audience to that kind of humor. I mean, the writing alone was amazing and top notch.

Hot on the statement that ViewAskew (Kevin's production company) might not make it through the year, it is disappointing to know that all the man's work was underappreciated. Under their own website, Vieweskew.com, Kevin lamented that none of his movies, except Clerks, has seen profit. While the budget for Clerks was $25,000, or there abouts, the last project, Jersey Girl, rounded at about $15 million. That is a long way from the paltry budget of what had to be one of the freshest movies of it's time.

Anyway, I said disappointed, but this is where the change of pace comes from. Kevin Smith has decided to go back to his roots and film a sequeal to his amazing movie, calling it : Clerks: The Passion of the Clerk.

COME ON! Do we not learn from other sequels. First off, for those of you who have not seen Clerks, leave the computer. Go to the video store, rent, it, watch it. Please resume this article 2 hours and 45 minutes afterwards.

One of the things that made Clerks a great movie was that it showed the promise of a young writer and his flare. While, steadily, he has slowly gotten worse ( See: Jersey Girl...wait, don't see), I don't think it is time to revisit the original fount. That would be like George Lucus deciding to re-do Star Wars with a bunch of Barbie Dolls. There are few movies that are absolute classics in my mind, and Clerks is one of them. The premise is to look at the two lovable losers 10 years down the road from the original Clerks. Maybe it is going back for cash, or maybe it is a good idea, I don't know. All I know, in my gut, was that when I read the news, I threw up. Not really, but I was a little upset at the idea. Either way, I don't think it will ever live up to the original, and there could be a loss of fans in this one.

I'm smelling "going back for the cash." Next thing you know, he'll re-release the original Clerks, except colorized (Turner style) and digitally remastered (with more lizards and robots).
Some of you may want to take a "wait and see" approach; I'm recommending the "wait and don't see" version.

I finally got to see Clerks last year (and this is after viewing Dogma and Chasing Amy) and it's just an amazing film.

However, I think he improved for a while, with Chasing Amy (one of my all-time favorites.) There is so much going on in that movie that every time I watch it, I learn something different about the characters.

Jersey Girl was Kevin Smith santinized. He's good when he can let loose. But something seemed off about the movie.
As for Clerks 2, this is the second time it's been mentioned. It was supposed to be made after Chasing Amy, then was put on hold for Dogma. The original title was going to be Clerks 2: Still Clerkin'.

There is a Clerks X dvd.... I always thought they should have done more of the cartoon though....

I'll watch it. How can I not? There's going to be some expectations though and anticipation and here's hoping he lives up to them.

Aside from Clerks, and then Chasing Amy (although I've flip-flopped on this order in the past), my next favorite Kevin Smith works are his run on Daredevil (#'s 1-13, I believe) and then the first story-arc of Green Arrow (after Ollie was brought back from the dead). Then it's Dogma and Mallrats (not having seen Jersey Girl, nor intending to voluntarily or, at the least, sober).
