Ramblings, just ramblings
Anne Rice's Revenge
Published on September 25, 2004 By Amitty In Books
As some of you might already read, Anne Riceis angry.

USers of the site Amazon.com have been leaving less than flattering remarks about her final book in the Vampire Chronicles, andher career, and she isn't happy about it.

A spokesperson for Amazon.com said: " If she choose to read and reply to the reviews, that is her decision. People may post what they want."
Apparently what people want to post is not what the recently widowed writer wants to hear.

"Writer Anne Rice, whose extravagant fictions about vampires and witches have made her famous and rich, vents her anger at readers who dare criticize her latest book Blood Canticle on the Amazon.com website and ends her lengthy, single-paragraph tirade by giving her home address in New Orleans and promising refunds to the disgruntled.

"And if you want your money back for the book, send it to 1239 First Street, New Orleans La. 70130. I am not a coward about my real name or where I live," she writes in a message posted Sept. 6 in response to the harsh criticisms and expressions of disappointment from dozens of readers. "And how glad I am that this book is the last one in a series that has invited your hateful and ugly responses." - Toronto Star.

To be honest, as a long time fan, even I couldn't fight the critisism that this book broght. True, her husband, Stan Rice, died earlier this year, and maybe she should have taken her time getting back on the horse, but this has been coming for a long time.

Since starting to merge her two titanic storylines, that of the Vampire Chronicles and the Tales of the Mayfair Witches, the recipe could only mean disaster. It was like she was trying to merge it all into one great big finale, and that exploded in her face.

I would like to point out that while she claims not to be a coward about her real name, Miss Rice has published several books under several different names. I feel sorry that the masterpiece that she thought was the final book would end in fan scorn, but she should have stopped while she was ahead."

I haven't read her books in a long time, I did like the Mayfair Witches series.

I don't think she would reacted this way if she is stable. Being a published author for as long as she has, she should know by now how to take public criticism.

I couldn't agree more withthat statement

Tried to read her early stuff but it just didn't do it for me. Sorry her whole life now is driven by her ego.

I don't think it is her whole life driven by her ego, but I think a lot of it has to do with losing her husband. They had been married a long, long time and that might really have unhinged her. If that is the case, I still don't think that it should take a public forum of blasting to vent other frustrations and emotions. But, hey, what do I know? I'm not a grieving author.
