Almost seven years ago, I got introduced to a game that changed my life for quite some time. At hte time, there was only one game like it, and that was Ultima: Online. Tha game sucked, so I tried this new one tht me and a friend got into the beta for.
Everquest was something that had never really been around before. With the beta access, i picked one of the test servers and tried it out. WOW. I tried it at 6 pm on a Friday night after work and got off the computer at 7 am on Sunday. I was lost in a world that required me to kill and loot and meet other people online to further myself through the complex word that Sony Entertainment was about to unleash on the world.
For the next five year, I played Everquest and faithfully bought expansion after expansion. For some reason, few games that came out in that time caught my attention. I did eventually try them all, and until Final Fantasy XI came around, I stayed faithful to EQ.
To explain what I was feeling five or six years ago would be pointless. I had gone through so much game time after five years that I had replaced three cable modems and five network cards. It was a agreeable pattern in life to persue. Come home, play for eight hours, log off. On weekends, in the house I moved into after University, all five people played Everquest, plus seven or eight different people that were friends. Online, I had met so many people that if I logged on today, half of them would probably still be playing.
But, alas, I kicked the habit six months before final fantasy hit the shelves, only going back once for a play around with Everquest: Online Adventures for the Playstation 2.
What brings me to this article was something I ordered and is coming in tomorrow. But I will get to that.
I got a email a year and a half ago from sony online that stated now, and for the good part of the month, I could get Everquest: triology. That was EQ and hte first two expansions. Further down the line, Sony online tempted me with Everquest: Evolutions. It included a few more expansions, but nothing special.
Then, Sony released the Lost Dungeons of Norrath. The last expansion at the time, it included something that got me excited: Individual dungeons. It had been a long time since i had gotten rid of my account, selling all four of my lvl 51 charaters online for a mint.
Now, the Everquest: Platinum edition has hit stores, and I'm afraid that my weakness has made me sucumb to the urge to play. I grew bored of Final Fantasy after hitting high levels, but EQ has more to offer. All seven expansion, with the 8th just being released.
So, nevermind blogging..if you don't see me online for a while, you know where I'll be.
