The Hoops to Jump to get a Decent Wage
Published on November 4, 2004 By Amitty In Life Journals
Well, I finally arrived home from living elsewhere, and I am glad to be here. Sorry I haven't been posting, tho I'm not sure how many might have missed me.

Being back in town, I needed a job. There is a call center for AT&T here in town, and they were offering good wages. I applied and got hired the same day. At first I was relieved, because being home without money sucks ass. Then, I started to hear the reps talk. I think we were not allowed to be hanging with workers until the training was done. Apparently it sucks ass.

The living wage in Canada is not that low, and a job that is willing to pay as well as this call center helps even the odds. There are some things that aren't that great.

1. Assessment. We are put through training and tested on everything. 80% pass, no exceptions. And training is a no absense thing. So, that sucks.

2. Dress code and such. Strictly enforced. They just allowed jeans on casulal fridays.

I think the worst of it is that you are put in a cubicle for 7.5 hours a day to be yelled at by customers. I applied hoping and preying that I would get a promotion in the company, and luckily it looks like I will. But for all the people in the little cubicle, I salute you.

Locked in cubicle, stuck on phone, told to lie to customers, no fun at all.
