Sam Raimi has decided we all need to take a look back at a simpler time. A time before the Power Rangers and Spiderman made him a super star.
I'm talking about when a little-known director and a little known B-actor named Bruce Campbell filmed a cult classic called The Evil Dead. the premise of the movie surrounded a cabin and the book of the dead, the Necronomicon. Bruce loses some people, death ensues, and it spawned two sequels that went on to be even large cult classics.
So, now, with wealth and power under his belt, Raimi decided to revisit the movie and update it. " It is not so much a update as a fresh perspective" the director said when asked about it. " Since the fans have supported this movie, I think it is something they deserve."
But do we?
Since deciding not to cash in on the character Ash in the Jason Vs Freddy sequel, Raimi has re-written the script for the original Evil Dead, but will not direct. Sources say that he is too busy with Spiderman 3 and other projects.
But that isn't the worst part.
Bruce ' Ash' Campbell might not be back to play Ash. It is not confirmed whether he will or not, but it doesn't look hopeful at this point. Apparently the remake means all new cast members.
What do the fans have to say? Nothing good I imagine. I personally think that, regardless of bit parts in the other movies, this is a kick to the junk for Campbell. While the story for the First Evil Dead was mediocre, Campbell's protrayal of the main character is waht really sets the movie off. To deny Campbell the right to play it...that is no good. But, when Hollywood calls, I guess power lets you do things that make you a ass to the friends that helped you along the way.
