Ramblings, just ramblings

So, Peter Jackson has been given a 7 figure advance to produce the movie debut of the massively popular Xbox game. No word on who will direct it, whether it be Jackson or the other lucky man to be offered a advance for producing, Fran Walsh.

I'm not sure if the issue here will be ' Will this movie suck?'. Peter Jackson has shown that he has a falre for making a good movie. I'm not touting up LotR, though most fans would agree that it was a great set of movies when compared to the books. Jackson's earlier movies, like Dead Alive and the Frighteners have shown that he knows what he is doing.

The real thing to look at is what the fans might expect from a movie based off Halo. As the problem when facing the fact that you have been handed the job of producing a movie based on a all-time popular game. We could look back at some of the other vidoe game movies and see where they went wrong. Most of the problems weren't really wrong with them, but the spirit was wrong.

One of the greatest examples that comes to mind is Mortal Kombat. Personally, for a video game movie, and for the time it was made, it ended up being a decent movie when compared to the game. I think part of it was that it was a literal port from game to movie. In some ways, I think people expect some familiarity, while seeing something new. This was somewhat successful with the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie. At least the first one.

I think, when it comes right down to it, the gaming geeks and enthusists will never really be all that satisfied when they see their favorite character come to life. But, if Jackson takes the director's chair, at least it will be visually stunning.
